Housing Crisis, Origins and Solutions

Housing Crisis, Origins and Solutions with Tara Rollins, Executive Director of the Utah Housing Coalition

James Wood,Senior Fellow at the University of Utah's Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute recently wrote:

"Rent for a typical 2-bedroom apartment in SL County increased by $100 last year to $1,294.month. To afford such rent, an income of $51,000 would be required.

For 5 years, vacancy rates have been below 5%, leaving renters with few options if they cannot afford rent hikes.

In the last 5 years, rents have jumped by 41% in Ogden, 31% in Layton, 28% in Salt Lake City and 24% in Orem according to Utah Rent Report."

The Census Bureau says almost 20,000 Utahans are very or somewhat likely to lose their homes or face evictions in the next 3 months.

That is equivalent to all the people in Brigham City. This is a CRISIS!
