Congratulations to Senator Kathleen Riebe!
The Women’s Democratic Club of Utah extends its congratulations to Senator Kathleen Riebe on her nomination by Congressional District 2 Democratic Convention Delegates to run as the Democratic candidate for Congress in that district.
Senator Riebe currently represents Senate District 8 in the Utah Legislature, where she serves as the Minority Whip. She also serves on multiple legislative committees that span an array of policy arenas including public education; law enforcement and criminal justice; government operations; revenue and taxation; and transportation, public utilities, energy, and technology. The bills she has sponsored span a similar breadth of issues. For example, SB0049 impacts the way in which law enforcement questions juveniles held in custody because of an alleged crime. Another, SB008 would have removed law enforcement reporting requirements that are currently a pre-requisite for women seeking abortion under the rape exceptions.
Her life and background outside of the Utah Senate include a BS in Education from Hofstra University, a Masters in Educational Administration from Utah State University, and a Tech Endorsement from Southern Utah State University. Her non-legislative job is that of educational technology specialist at Robert Frost and Olene Walker Elementary School—a job she has had for the past 20 years. In her spare time, she also serves as the Vice President of the Granite Educational Association, is an Honorary Commander in the National Guard, and is the Vice Chair of the Utah State School Board Finance Committee. For the past 20 years, she has lived in Cottonwood Heights with her husband and children.
The WDC fully endorses and supports Senator Riebe in her candidacy. Congressional District 2 is ready for the change she represents!
