Forrest Cuch
former Director of Indian Affairs for the State of Utah
Forrest S. Cuch is a respected Ute leader, educator, and advocate for Native communities. A member of the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, he served as the Director of Indian Affairs for the State of Utah from 1997 to 2011, working to strengthen relationships between tribal nations and state government. Throughout his career, Cuch has been dedicated to preserving Native history, promoting cultural understanding, and advancing educational opportunities for Indigenous youth. He is also the editor of A History of Utah’s American Indians, a landmark book highlighting the voices and histories of Utah’s tribes.
Tammy Dee Platero
Co-Founder and Director of Missing
Murdered Indigenous Relatives of Utah
Tammy Dee Platero is the Co-Founder and Director of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives of Utah (MMIR Utah), where she leads efforts to bring awareness, advocacy, and support to Indigenous families impacted by violence and disappearance. A strong community organizer and advocate, she works to bridge partnerships with tribal nations, state leaders, and grassroots organizations to address systemic inequities and seek justice for Native communities. Through her leadership, Platero has become a vital voice in Utah’s movement to honor, protect, and uplift Indigenous peoples and their stories.
