OUR SPEAKER
-----------------------------------------------------------
Celeste Edmunds
Exec Director, The Christmas Box House
Celeste Edmunds is the Executive Director of The Christmas Box International. At a very young age she was taken from her home and placed into the child welfare system where moving every few months to a new environment became normal. By the time she was sixteen, she had lived in more than 30 cities. Her education is in Child Welfare from the University of Utah College of Social and Behavior Science.
She is also the author of Garbage Bag Girl. It's her story of being raised by addicted parents and, at a young age, learning to survive and protect my siblings from rapists and drug dealers. Eventually, the state separated her family, and she was adopted alone into a dysfunctional, fractured home where a sadistic and manipulating mother treated her as an unwanted outsider. Contemplating taking her abuser’s life, she eventually ran away, finding shelter wherever she could, until a compassionate woman stepped in to give her home and love.
Ultimately, Garbage Bag Girl is an unforgettable story of hope and resiliency.
A Christmas Box House is a short-term emergency shelter for children and teens removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, trafficking, or homelessness.
The Christmas box house serves children, teens and young adults, ages 0-22 who have experienced abuse, neglect, trafficking or who are facing homelessness. The year-round programs include three Christmas Box House emergency children’s shelters and thirteen Resource Rooms. They also serve youth who are transitioning from foster care into adulthood, and young adults who are facing homelessness.
During the holiday season, through Project Elf we work with the community to provide children and teens who are at risk of removal have a Merry Christmas Morning.
