About this event
Guest speaker Michael Pekarske is currently the Assistant Director of the State of Utah, Refugee Services Office (RSO). He has been with RSO since 2013, working in various roles focused on community development, grant management, and oversight of the Utah Refugee Center. In his current role he is managing RSO operations and customer-facing teams including the Employment, Mental Health and Community Teams. Michael was born in Wisconsin and has a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design.
Guest speaker Maryam Radpour is a WDC Member who was born and raised in the vibrant culture of Iran. Maryam will speak about her experience bridging cultural differences between the Iran and the U.S. Growing up in a country where gender dynamics were starkly imbalanced, Maryam witnessed firsthand the need for empowered female leaders. This realization fueled her desire to shatter barriers and become a beacon of change, and living in a free country (the US), inspired Maryam to advocate for the welfare of women and children. Maryam Radpour is currently attending the Political Development Series.
